Empower Your Future with the VET Student Loan

A VET Student Loan is a loan provided by the Australian Government to eligible students to help cover the cost of tuition fees for approved VET courses. The loans are subject to interest and are repaid by the student once their income reaches a certain threshold.

  • Be an Australian citizen, a permanent humanitarian visa holder residing in Australia for the duration of the course, or a New Zealand citizen who meets certain residency requirements.
  • Be enrolled in an eligible course of study with an approved provider that is approved for VET Student Loans.
  • Meet the minimum academic requirements for the course, as set by the provider.
  • Have not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit (which is the lifetime limit for VET Student Loans and other HELP loans).
  • Provide a valid and verified Tax File Number (TFN).
  • Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) or be willing to apply for one.
  • Complete and submit the required documents and forms to the provider before the census date (the date after which you will incur a debt for the course).

Loan Amounts:
  • $5,000 for students studying a Certificate IV or lower qualification in any subject.
  • $10,000 for students studying a Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification in any subject.
  • $15,000 for students studying a Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification in aviation.
  • $20,000 for students studying a qualification in nursing, engineering, or IT.

Income Limit:

As of the 2021-22 financial year, the repayment threshold for VET Student Loans is $49,126 per year before tax. Once your income reaches this threshold, you will be required to start making repayments on your loan.

  2. Find an approved provider
  3. Obtain a Commonwealth Assistance Form (CAF)
  4. Complete enrolment
  5. Wait for VET Student Loan confirmation and sign loan contract
  6. Attend classes and complete assessments
  7. Start repaying the loan once income reaches the repayment threshold
